For privacy purposes, let’s call him “Trevor”. Anyway, this guy seemed nice enough to start out. He started on Monday and when I first saw him, he complimented me on my tattoos and just came off as an average guy. Didn’t really talk to him on Tuesday and then on Wednesday, that’s when shit got a little creepy. I was loading shirts on the press and “No Scrubs” was playing on the radio and I asked him if he was a scrub. Just being silly. So, he asked if I was a pigeon. We both agreed we were neither and then fist bumped on it. Then, kinda outta nowhere, he asked if I was interested in him. I kinda brushed it off and then went on break shortly thereafter. While on break, he pops into the break room to again ask me if I was interested in him. At that point, I just told him I was seeing someone. So, he asked if we could just be friends and I said alright. He then asked for my number and just kinda brushed that off and walked away. I didn’t have anymore dealings with him that day.
On Thursday, I was sorta dreading going to work. And, honestly, except for the fact that sometimes I’m really tired and don’t feel like going, I don’t really dislike my job. But knowing that I’d have to deal with him was kinda bringing me down. When I showed up to work (at 2pm) I didn’t see him and thanked my lucky stars. As the day went on, I came to find out he’d been fired for sexual harassment that morning. Turns out, I wasn’t the only person he’d been “hitting on”. He hit on one chick while her BF was standing right there, he quoted a Drake song to another girl and kinda creeped her out, and the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he apparently got up close and personal with another girl and made kissy faces at her. It was the third girl who complained to my boss and he was escorted off the premises before 11am.
To add insult to injury, my boss’s wife (who I guess is also a boss) had to call the temp agency he’d come from and tell them why he was being let go. And the person who answered the call? Trevor’s GF. That is a serious dose of karma right there, but unfortunately, he seems like the type of guy to not learn important lessons and I’m sure he’s just gonna carry on without skipping a beat. Also, EVERY guy at my work had a talking to about sexual harassment in the work place. They’re all good guys and I know that’d never do shit like that on purpose, but if you could see the way the interact with each other ALL the time, you’d understand what a waste of time that was. lol
I thanked my (male) boss later that day and told him I’d been put off by Trevor’s actions too. He told me if that ever happens again to just let him know and he’ll take care of it. If only every boss was like that. But, either way, if someone’s making you feel uncomfortable, make sure you stand up for yourself and let your superiors know ASAP.
