i was on a borat/bruno/ali g/sacha cohen kick last night and had to share. enjoy.
ive reflected more annd more on the election process. i guess part of the reason why i said what i did the other day is that the whole thing has come to be a farce or a hollow representation of what it is supposed to be. i got so many "calls" about voting. i got calls from bill clinton, jesse jackson and even spike lee...who by the way called ON election day about an hour before the polls closed...good show spike. these were recorded messages of course and as an afterthought, i wish i would have saved them. it would have made a nice gag reel or something.
change can be good. i was never a fan of the gop but its not as though the dems are any less inept. partisan politics is crazy business and i think too many people do shit just because its what they are (or are NOT) supposed to do. where exactly is the wisdom in that course of action? while i anticipate that things could be better over the next few years, im not really holding my breath. then again, since i refrained from participating in the process, i suppose i dont really have the right to say jack shit until the next elections? oh well.
i stayed up until about 3 something mostly watching the history channel. i saw a very good show on the history of drugs and laws against them. i watched a show on the history of tobacco and its spread through the world and how cigarettes and the companies that make them are just bad. really really REALLY bad. (shudders)
but here is what gets me the most. i watch tv late sometimes. not always the same thing. sometimes its movies on DVD. sometimes its sports. sometimes its shows in syndication. the one thing that stands out the most to me is targeted marketing and what it says about who they THINK is watching. if i have on a sitcom or something like mxc then its commercials for girls gone wild or vocational schools like devry. if its sports, then of course its car commercials and alchohol. but if its the history channel, its commercials for banks, investment firms and penis pills. marketing is a very scary thing.
jsut some random observations for today i suppose.

My HS girlfriends dad really came down on me for not voting. I was like, "Look, you can tell your daughter who to vote for and expect her to follow suit....but I'm not weighing in on something I don't know much about." So many people blindly pull the trigger on something they're ignorant of. And, even if you read every newspaper and internet article, the chances of you having a clear picture of what's REALLY going on is slim.
I definitely hear you on this. I'm just glad that having a Democratic congress will (should be) a blow to George W (I love Jesus) Bush's reign of terror.
