My feelings are mixed on Cedar Rapids...though overall positive.
First off, I was originally listed as the last person to go up before Derek(It is his club...and he is one of the funniest people). That's a huge honor to me that he would place me that high on the list of performers. It's one thing to tell somebody you think they're good...it's another to show it.
The only problem with the night was that by the time people like Chris, Derek and myself went on stage...only 5 or 6 people were still paying attention. Who can blame them though...they've been sitting in one spot for two hours and they're all exhausted and tired. Everybody who went on late was having a hard time getting a response. By the time I went up - 13 people had already gone on stage. As I was walking to the stage, I had to fight my way past 6 people who were already leaving. It was extremely awkward because your talking to people who are looking through you, thinking about all the stuff they have to do tomorrow. After the show, I told Robin (a fellow comedian) how grateful I was that he stuck around at one of the front row tables...because he was the only person I could hear that was paying attention. I think my set would have been great had I performed earlier in the evening. Kyle Grooms(the headliner this weekend) and Chris (the feature...aka: funniest person in Iowa) both had good things to say to me after I was done...which made me feel better about my set.
I did get to hang out with Kalli tonight. She drove down from Cedar Falls to see Derek (and me by default). She is incredible and I had a great time talking to her (and her listening/laughing at things I said). I'll look forward to seeing her again on Saturday. I also had a good time hanging out at Crosby's (they have Woodpecker on tap again).
Oh yeah...I heard the O.C. was good tonight. I'm going to have to give up on this season and wait until the DVD comes out. I've missed too much.
Upcoming Stage Schedule:
*March 10th - Cedar Rapids(funniest person in Iowa qualifing round)
*March 28th - Funny Bone (Des Moines)
*March 30th - Penguin's (Bettendorf)
*?March 31st? - Penguin's in Cedar Rapids(Funniest Person In Iowa Finals). The question marks are because I really want to perform that night...but it's not up to me. There's no sure things in life - it's out of my hands.

Do comideans burn houre long CDs of themselves to sell after shows?
These are most likely stupid questions but I'm very curious.
Good luck with your shows.
I love when stand up comedians tie a strand of jokes into a mach larger joke. YOu know where they sort of tell a story but there are giggles and jokes in the whole process. It's often done when comics talk politics or relationships and so on.
Me not knowing how much time a comic at your levle gets; I'm curious to know a few things.
1. how long do you usualy get on stage?
2. If you get a small amount of time is it harder to do the longer storeyline sorta comedy?
3. Is there industry slang for some of the things I've been talking about? We have music industry speak that some might need a transllater for.
I'm asking lots of questions.... I'll go away now.
