What Is Happening??
This Tuesday, I finally go in for a knee replacement surgery!! This has been several years in coming and the knee has gotten progressively worse over the last ten years or so. When I was living on my own in Alaska it would have been difficult and expensive for the care and I would need for at least two weeks, and then the Uber or whatever I would have needed to drive me anywhere for at least a month; work, physical therapy, food shopping and so forth.
Once I finally moved to the East Coast, the knee was still manageable and I was needed to help my then 80 year old parents. As time went on and the knee kept deteriorating, I pushed back on getting the replacement done because it would leave the parents without my help. This was stupid, of course, because I have a great support system with great friends and family who would be willing to fly out and help!
At any rate, about three weeks ago, I finally thought it was time to look into it and BOOM! In three days, after a physical and blood test, I was scheduled! This was two and a half weeks ago and after a pt visit, a few visits with the surgeon’s team, another blood test and over $2100 in pre-surgery fees, it’s happening!
I may or may not be able to spend more time here in the next weeks. ‘May’ because I have a lot of reading, research and possible writing of a new book to do, as well. The first few days might be a haze of pain meds, too. Certainly, after a week I’ll check back in to say ‘hello’ and that I made it through just fine.
See you in a few!!
