Mood: Library Magic by The Head and the Heart
An Athenaeum Update
While writing my blog about music and writing and such yesterday, it occurred to me it had been a while since posting an update on my addiction to books. Consequently, over the next few hours after posting that blog I had determined that I would take new pictures and do a quick blog today. We will see just how ‘quick’, as a few other things decided to work their way into it! 😉
Never Enough Room, Never Enough Time
Yep, it is a book addiction, I make no excuses for it! Since the last time I wrote about it, the collection of love, memories and new adventures has grown enough to need additional shelving. As well, another addiction has wormed its way onto the shelves.
To begin with, the study desk and history/science/research books:
It’s a little messy, but I use the desk daily so it may as well look as it tends to, right?
Now, onto the bulk of what I own (so far), and though they are all 99% fiction, I still use them all as a kind of research as to style and narrative ability to improve my own writing.
A note of explanation: my shelves are in alphabetical order by author’s last name, starting at the top shelf and going from left to right, as you might expect. You will notice gaps for the flatscreen and such, and in this first picture you do not even see the ‘A’s represented; that will be in that last photo, as I chose to start with each section of the shelves, again from left to right. I will discuss the LOTR, Doc Brown, Luke Skywalker and other such figures at the end of the pictures…
But wait, there’s more!
Bedside books and a stack of those I plan to get to next…but tends to change at a whim, of course!
It Figures!
All those 1/6 scale figure you see populating those shelves are another addiction of mine. Since I was a child and was gifted with G.I. Joes, and here I am talking of the 12 inch, or 1/6 scale guys with full and interchangeable outfits and all the equipment you can imagine, vehicles and Adventure Team upgrades, these were the toys that captured my attention and imagination! Fast forward 30 years or so and the 1/6 scale market goes nucking futs! Now there are incredibly detailed soldiers from every century, equally detailed characters from movies and such, with (of course) equally inflated prices, priced for collectible status.
I was hooked!
We’re talking light sabers that can light up; we’re talking Iron Men that have lighted repulsion rays and chests and eyes; we’re talking Infinity Gauntlets that light up! Oh, so much wonderful stuff! And not just contemporary stuff; no, there are lines of almost all the Star Trek series and movies, with captain’s chairs with light and sounds….and I will just stop here. Amazing and fun. If one can afford it
The good news is that they are literally investments; should I tire of any, I can sell them for more than I bought them after a few years, especially if they are pristine and with all accessories….and I will stop here.
Starry Skies
This last week has seen some fun livestreams with @starry; join in on them if you see her on! You will not be disappointed!
At any rate, who knows if it serendipity or just luck, but I have seen a few things in my daily life that literally screamed her name. The first is a book I that is the last book in a series based in the Lovecraftian myths, but, ell, here:
The title should be the book of her thoughts, of course. She is one of the most intelligent SGers that I have yet had the pleasure of chatting with.
The other thing popped up in my YouTube viewing a few days ago:
Seems like she should be making some $$ by promoting it, eh? 😁 At any rate, it just was fun that these ‘serendips’ showed up, so she and you all deserve to see them. Well, it’s my blog, so I post ‘em anyway! 😈
Be well all! Smile and make another’s day better!
