I finally got to go to the Gas Lamp District in downtown San Diego on Friday night. It was an experience I will be reliving very soon and frequently. Of all the bars I visited, The Field was my favorite. It was the most authentic Irish pub I've seen where they actually knew how to pour a proper Guinness. The bartenders were full-blooded Irish and the decor was simply amazing. I felt like I was in rural Ireland.
I forgot the name of the other bars, but I did have an amazing pickleback shot of which I was very wary. But I couldn't live with myself if I didn't even try it. The shot was surprisingly good and I'll have another next time I go to San Diego. There was a bar with a beer auction (similar to the idea of a stock market) where if one type of beer is ordered a lot, the price of that beer rises and the price of another type of beer will fall if nobody is ordering it. I didn't go in because it had a cover and I only had about 2 hours, but I'm betting that I could get drunk very cheap and try some off the wall beers at that place.
All in all, a good night. I'll be going back soon and will have more time to see everything downtown has to offer.
