Well it wasn't all work and no play for us up in Cally this time around. We were there for about a month and started out in Glendale where we visited a few good friends but mostly it was long hours and very hard work. We were home for a day and a half before our boss called us and flew us to Glendale yet again and then to Oakland.
Our boss gave us the weekend off and we went up to visit friends in Mendo county where I used to live. They have a few cabins and barn in the mountains off the grid. We stayed one night in the barn, talked shit and drank whiskey. I love my friends!!!!!
The next day John took out his gun collection and we started shooting targets in the trees. Holy shit! I was even drinking Coors light! Yeehaw! This is a guy who gets all his friends to come over, the tie up a sheet in the woods between 2 trees, project old westerns on it and shoot the sheet!!! How cool is that??
We went to the beautiful city of SF the next day and walked up hills for hours. Such a great place but MAN was it littered. Aren't these earthy crunchy types up north supposed to give a fuck about litter? And gutter punks are nothing but hippies if you ask me. Gah.
China town was one of our stops and we went into a little place called the La'mour Nightclub, which is what Matt calls a "Sit By Me Bar". He lived in Hawaii and these places were common there. A man goes in and the Asian gals that work there give him some company, and they make money when he buys them drinks. We watched one white guy (he and we were the only caucs there) practically get tackled by 2 gorgeous Japanese gals as soon as he sat at the bar. This is the kind of place you'd expect to see Tom Waits sipping a Singapore Sling...all dark, mysterious and strange. All the Japanese there were passing around a kareoke microphone and singing to projected videos all over the place. I loved L'amour Nightclub!
If you're ever on the west coast not too far from SF, go visit Cameron's English pub in Half Moon Bay. Get the scallops or fish and chips, they're great. They have a double decker bus outside for smokers, but it's kind of nasty and we don't recommend it unless it's really cold out.
Cheers!
