Computer is wicked slow today, driving me crazy!!!!!!
Picked up my Munny yesterday at Tates Comics, entering an art show with it at for theirFor Love of Munny opening gallery show. I have to paint this little bugger. Apparently these vinyl toys are all the rage, and customizers really pimp them out with sculpey clay and whatever else they got lying around.
Tates rocks. Growing up in Boston, we had Newbury Comics on Newbury St., the best comic and record store around. Newbury was part of my formative years, when I took 2 busses and 2 trains to get to it, escaping my sorryass hometown. My town was right across the water from the great city....but alas, was a long peninsula, and escape was at a premium. Anyway....I grew up leafing through the odd books, buttons, patches and music you couldn't find anywhere else. Newbury is where Aimee Mann first worked, legend has it. Now the store has a bunch of different locations, sells everything from Manic Panic to rubber goth dolls, and still brings subculture to all the kids of MA, NH, CT, ME, RI.
Tates is like Newbury without the music. Giant Alien dolls? Anime figures? Books on Tiki, Chicks with Guns, Frank Miller? If you are a geek, you belong here. I could easily spend hundreds of dollars here.
I met Amanda and Tate, the wife/husband owners, at Churchills Pub during Art vs. Rock, a show some of my paintings were in. These guys really support the underground art scene.
Anyway.....here's some incriminating photos of the cookout we had a few nights back. I made way-too-strong Mai Tai's, which ruined all chances of a low-key event. Matt grilled chicken and burgers. The blonde is someone who (shall we put it delicately) is a little free sexually, and she gave us all a little "show". Her and her Hunter S. Thompson clone boyfriend decided it would be cool to put some DNA in our hottub, so Matt kicked them out. Other than that awkward mishap, we had a great fucking time..........and we chorined the hell out of our hot tub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
