So this year's been.. fun.. so far.
Found out we were getting a new teacher. Then we got a new teacher. He's a touch different to most people in this town. But in a good way in my opinion.
He's been to Korean before. In *1981* when he was in the US military. He was Canadian but joined the US Army. He's been special forces in the US and Canadian armies since then though (parachute shit). He's a pretty tough looking/acting guy, as you'd imagine someone with 20 years in the military and 10yrs + special forces would be. I've been out with him a bunch of times, and see him at worke very day, been fun so far.
His first night here he'd been awake a few days, and so only stayed out until about 12:30 or so. Before then he knocked back about 6 double shots of bacardi 151 and a bunch of beers, and got the email addresses of a coupla cuteish Korean chicks. The kinds with english so bad that they wouldn't even give out their phone numbers though... and most of us didn't bother to hit on despite the hotness..
That first night though turned out to be messy. After he and Sally went off, me and John were left. We ended up hitting Hong Kong street again and hit a myriad of dodgy bars. For the first time we actually found a russian prostitute! it was very exciting. Though he didn't remember it. She was about 35-40 and I THINK she was quite chubby... however she had a bucketload of makeup on, so perhaps if she lost a few inches (by taking a shovel to some of the slap on her face ) she would have seemed more averageish.
Anyway we were immediately thrown out of the bar. I like to imagine that the reason we were 'asked to leave' (as in <physical pushing> "NO!" <point to the door a bunch of times> ) was because we were white. It might have been because it was closing time or because they didn't like drunks, however I'm sure it was the anti-white (well anti-non-Korean really, I'm sure the black fellas in town would have had the same luck) thing going on though heh.
We ended up WASTED in some stupid restaurant/soju bar at like 6:30am. The Korean guys who'd picked us up on the street or somewhere(neither of us remember where..) ordered us some drinks and food.. then John whispered to me "Ummm we don't know these guys. Where are we? Lets get the FUCK out of here!". Since I had to work at the ridiculously early time of 3:15pm the next day this suddenly seemed like wise advice. So we bounced. Just as the food and drinks were arriving. I think the Korean dudes were pissed (american meaning) but we were so pissed (english meaning) it didn't matter anymore.
It was also amusing last Saturday on Sally's birthday. She wanted to have a 'White trash' themed party however then she had a sudden onset of political correctness, and thought the two black-ish people (also two most popular people in town, life of the party etc.) in town might have been offended. So it got changed to a trailer-trash themed party. I think the 9 former trailer livers were more offended than the two not-quite-white-folk had been by the 'white-trash' themed name.. political correctness goes wrong again.
Fun night though. bar, bar, noraebong, bed. (I had to work early (at 2pm) so I left early at like 5am. So I probably missed the MOST amusing parts.
Doing a stupid winter camp in the day time for a crappy 20,000 won (10 pounds.. $18-$19) per 40 minutes at the moment. Really ruins my daily routine. NO BATHOUSE after Gumdo now sigh. Just have time to go for a shower before I go out to lunch. Stupid school vacations.
