I went back to the doctor today so they could take a bigger chunk of my skin in order to be sure no cancer cells remain. It left a hole that's probably big enough to put two US quarters inside. Hopefully the pathology report will be clear this time. Thank you to those of you that have shown support. It means a lot to me. I hope everyone will consider the dangers of radiation from the sun, and from tanning beds.
Melanoma is quite common in women under 30, and people who use a tanning bed before the age of 35 increase their risk of melanoma by 75% according to the American Cancer Society.
I only ever had two bad sunburns in my entire life, but one as a child increases your chances of melanoma by 50%. It's no joke, as you can see. I have to get checked every 3 months now for the rest of my life. It only takes one cancer cell to break free and then the chances of cure are very slim. So I say as in my last blog, please take care of your beautiful selves.
