It's been almost a year since I've done an update here. In that time I've been on the site maybe three times, so I've been missing my daily dose of cuteness. In that time I've had various ups and downs. I'll not go into the downs cos that's no fun, but I'll give you a few of the highs:
May saw a quick flight over to Islay, home of the world's best whiskies. Ardbeg? Laphroig? Lagavulin? Those three are barely a mile apart, then there's Bowmore, Bunnahabhain, Kilchoman, Caol Ila and Bruichladdich.

In June, I had a lovely trip to the home of American beer - Portland, OR. I mainly went to sample the many tasty beverages they make there, and by good fortune there was a beer festival at the zoo while I was there! How cool is that!? I also caught up with Hippomonki while I was there, and her newborn sprog Nila Jane
That was pretty awesome! I love kids, and I got to meet some of her family too. A special shout out goes to Craig from Roots Organic brewing for giging me free reign of the bar and showing me round the brewery. Thank you!
While I was there I made a trip to Eugene to meet up with an old school friend that was over there for a year and I hadn't seen for about 14 years. Then I headed up to Seattle to be shown the town by the drunkard and prolific myspacer Matt Brown. I'm still not sure if I was being shown the town or if the town was being shown me.

What was next.. um, in August I went on a trip round the highlands. I'm ashamed to say it was my first time and it was absolutely amazing. I've been to quite a few beautiful places in the world, but I think Scotland beats them all. As a bonus I also got to visit the Old Pulteney distillery in Wick.

Finally, in September/October I went to London for a week then Africa for two weeks! Africa started as a drunken suggestion (my friend: "What should I do for my 30th birthday?" me: "Why don't we go to Africa to see the hippos?"). Never, EVER, suggest things to me (or let me suggest them to you) if you don't fully intend on them happening!
Most of my pics are not online yet so you'll need to check back for updates. The first 32 are here
We saw hippos, penguins, ostrich, elephants, lions, giraffe, impala, kudu, crocodiles, donkeys, warthogs, and about a million other animals. Maybe more on that later! We got to South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe (which was totally not in the plan!). I'm so glad we wen to Zim. All the really nice people we met on the whole trip were from Zim so I'm glad to have seen a little of their country. Our taxi driver in Cape Town even called me up two weeks after we arrived home to ask me how I was getting on! Pretty cool.
So anyway I have come to the end of my monster year roundup - keep an eye out for updates as I get the 800 or so Africa pics gradually online.
Thanks folks, I hope things are going well for everyone
