Well, despite my paranoia about getting tickets, we sailed into the Living Color show without even a security search.
It was just fucking amazing. We'd seen them about two years ago and it was a good show, but I had left the gig feeling like they hadn't done their absolute best. It was a really good performance, but they didn't seem to be having too much fun.
On Sunday night they DEFINITELY had Too Much Fun. They played their asses off and blew everybody away. It was a small crowd of about 150 people, but they played at the absolute top of their form. Virtually every song was dismantled and reconstructed into intense jams that left the crowd screaming for more. After two encores it seemed like they had played every song they knew.
I got to talk briefly with bassist Doug Wimbush before the show and he was very nice and seemed genuinely pleased that we appreciated his craft. This was one for the memory book.
"I ain't no glamor boy -- I'm fierce!" Oh yes.
