Our first month in Portland has been amazing. The weather has been great and so has our exploration around the city. Our neighborhood is full of cool houses, lots of kids, and is in walking distance of a lot of interesting shit.
We are slowly working our way through the area, discovering restaurants and shops and distractions aplenty. Even the local Trader Joe's is more interesting than the ones back on the east coast. I found a good comic shop within walking distance and the best breakfast restaurant I've ever been to. The local tavern serves amazing seafood and there is at least one bookstore and tattoo shop in the neighborhood. And Saturday the season's first farmer's market will be just three blocks from here.
Portland is turning out to be even more interesting than I thought it would be. We're going to see Gang of Four on Thursday night at the Crystal Ballroom, it will be our first taste of live music since we got to town. I'm looking forward to it. They were a fierce band before and I have every reason to believe they still are. Coincidentally, bass player Dave Allen live in Portland, too. Small fuckin' world.
