This Schiavo thing is completely out of hand,
Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee, the majority leader, acknowledged that such concerted Congressional action on behalf of a single person was highly unusual.
"These are extraordinary circumstances that center on the most fundamental of human values and virtues: the sanctity of human life," said Senator Frist, who is a physician.

The Republicans are having a field day with this and the Democrats just sit by and watch helplessly.
My own opinion - Letting someone remain in a vegetative state for 10 years or more is a bit cruel, but I also think removing the feeding tube and letting someone starve over a period of weeks seems unnecessarily painful and drawn out. What no one wants to hear is that this poor woman needs to be taken out to pasture. Or more realistically, given a fast and painless lethal injection.
Not surprising but it still makes me want to puke that Bush is politicizing this. Let's put aside questions about morality and sanctity of human life for a second and ask what should be the role of the federal government? To intervene in the medical care and personal lives of individual citizens? Hardly.
