It saddens me that I feel I alienate people because the subject of most of my thoughts involve something deeper than "I picked my nose today and found an orange spigot." It's depressing that most people treat the things they think are important with indifference and distance themselves from it. Or even worse, that they don't have any strong opinions on anything.
It's tough finding people who give a damn about anything.

Maybe you're just looking in the wrong place (it's a porn site, dude). Try not to sound so conceited - that'll REALLY alienate people.
To be fair, I'll acknowledge that SG isn't JUST a porn site. It does bring people together from a demographic that is under-represented in main stream media and provides them with a forum for discussion and self-expression. Just because SG uses sex as it's main drawing point doesn't negate it's potential significance as a medium for activists (just look at Dan Savage's column).
That said, the SG discussion groups and news forums (which I realize you participate in) inevitably provide a more targeted way to find a receptive audience for one's opinions compared to a personal blog. Using a personal blog to muse about life's banal pleasantries doesn't necessarily make a person shallow - it's a form of entertainment and it's a way of fostering connections (even the most hard-core activists don't mind occasional chit chat).
