I'd like to pose a question: what the hell is going on in the States?
This is how I see it and I'd like to guide you to see if my hypothesis seems logical. I'm by no means a political scientist or even terribly politically savvy. But before answering the question above, I'd like to impose some context.
As I see it, the States have struggled for a very long time to be dominant over the major oppositional factors in the world. I think that's pretty evident up to the ending of the cold war with Russia. This is still considered conspiracy theory by most but many recognized scholars and professors dispute the evidence of the landing on the moon. The Russians weren't close to completing the mission for a number of reasons. They couldn't get their men past the Van Allen belts without a fatal dose of radiation (notice nobody's been back since?). I posit that the only reason to falsify this evidence would be to win the "space race." To demonstrate US scientific superiority. The same that was shown in Hiroshima.
But more recently, there haven't really been any other contenders to fight against the US as the only remaining worldwide superpower. That doesn't mean the US hasn't still been in a nearly constant state of war. Everyone knows that in order for a President to keep his residency in the White House, all he needs to do is drop some bombs on a country on which bombs need to be dropped. Even if it is just because you splooged on an intern's dress. The US government has seemingly had a long and easy run, doing whatever they want however they want to do it. And because of it, that leadership has begun to be a worldwide laughing stock, even to its own people. Articles like this one are fairly common. Note, too, that it's a US site.
Let's assume for a moment that the people really running things are not idiots. I've believed for a long time that Bush has no idea how to run the country. I've believed for a long time that he's the face that's been put at the podium to sing and dance while the real leaders do the work they need to do, whoever they may be. I like to assume that these are the people aren't idiots. It's clear the power these non-idiots wield. What could they want next? Perhaps "How could we get the respect we feel we deserve?"
The linked article ends with a prediction that the ensuing conflict in Iraq and the similar decisions by the US government will throw itself into a state wherein the self-interested US leaders will clearly be made public. True and noble "contenders" will allegedly lead the country to a new golden age. Historically, the world's greatest (or at least most impactful) leaders have all arisen in times of great national turmoil. They use their social might and political clout to fix a terrible national situation and are showered with adoration. I'm thinking of examples and most of them involve a questionable morality while saving their countries. Mao Tse Tung and Stalin being two. The people who survived the mock trials and mass executions for not going along with the plan rejoiced in the wealth that the country enjoyed.
I believe that the direction in which the US is being led could create a situation in which such a leader would be required. I believe the US has become or at least is becoming a place where liberty is compromised for control. Its agenda seems to be that of international bullying and is likely headed to an egregious loss of life both foreign (Vietnamese, Croat/Serbian, Iraqi, etc.) and domestic (9/11, "War on Terror" casualties). Its humanitarian interests are being cast aside for commercial and industrial benefit. In most literature I've read, those sorts of ideals are usually held by the antagonists.
Is it possible that the situation is being purposefully created such that a heroic protagonist is needed to overthrow the evil empire and guide the country into a new age of wealth and prosperity? Has Bush Jr. actually become Darth Vader? Or could this be a false flag scenario on its own government? Will Luke have already turned to the darkside before tossing the Emperor down the energy reactor shaft. And if so, what would happen if someone found out? You don't get a medal for saving the person you pushed in front of a bus.
