Here is one of my better poems --making the rounds like everything else. It's about a shitty area of Columbus Ohio where I used to live, close to downtown:
Unsurveyed Land Eastside of Columbus
By Michael S. Walker
Here
This place is called
Balcony
Of the Angry Voices
And this is called
Wreck
Where Two Women Bend
Not wearing anything under their dresses
And this is called
Fence
Where Dogs Want
All daylong
To surprise you again
The land around here
Is Water Tower Upended
And Factory
With Broken Windows
This is called
Steps
That used to lead up to a school
And this here stream is called
Something is Broken Under the Streets
And bleeds and bleeds and bleeds
And I forget
What we call this place where we sleep at night
And the funny thing is
People have been known to kill
For these twisted roots
People have been known to kill
