Praise and accolades are only meaningful when contrasted with criticism.
Which is to say, October 2008 was another dreadful month at SG.
I am basing this tough assessment solely on the photo sets.
But, as always, the mission here will be to focus on WHAT WAS GOOD THAT MONTH.
Let’s get into it.
First, I liked Loves Me Loves Me Not by @amarie : her one and only set as a Suicide Girl.
Why did I like it?
She’s just a beautiful gal with glowing skin.
I love how her dark hair contrasts her fair skin.
Well-done!
Next, I liked Bubble Bath by @ney_ney .
This Hopeful made very effective and artful use of filters.
Well-done!
Let’s take it up a notch.
Clocking in with gargantuan mammaries was @wendy in Show Pony .
This gal always gets my blood pumping.
Oh, to be slapped around by those titties!
I REALLY liked this set!!
And now for another Suicide Girl who (sadly) disappeared after this month.
It appears to be her second (and last) set [unless we can coax her back].
I refer, of course, to the sublime art direction of The Red Room featuring @amandine .
Twin Peaks fans should dig this one.
The curtain is great.
But the particular type of microphone is what makes it very good.
Thumbs up!
Another Suicide Girl sadly made her last set in October 2008.
And she appears to be pretty dead-set on never returning.
At least she left us with Little Messages .
This gal, @burbuja , had one-hell-of-a sexy nose.
It’s a shame she walked away.
Nevertheless, well-done!
Now for a Hopeful who made one set and gave up (apparently).
It’s too bad @cupcake_ didn’t stick around beyond Indulgence .
What makes this set special is the judicious use of the color teal.
And a fine bit of creative writing done with sugary icing.
Sadly, the photographer’s name is lost to time.
Well-done!
Now for one of the mere three perfect sets from October 2008.
Peaches and Cream was @cecilia ‘s last set.
And she ain’t coming back.
Notice a trend?
Lots of turnover during this time.
Lots of models making their last sets in Oct. 2008.
Lots of EXCEPTIONAL models walking away.
Why?
A guess might be that they were dissatisfied.
But dissatisfied with what?
Money always explains a lot.
But it doesn’t always explain everything.
It is a quizzical phenomenon we encounter in that year’s spooky season.
Anyhow, Peaches and Cream is a perfect set.
Why?
First of all, this gal had magical boobs about the size of cantaloupes.
Or honeydew melons.
Big ones!
But this set is more than just a pair of tits.
It is perfect because model AND photographer were impeccable.
So I must recognize the amazing photographic gifts of @albertine .
How did she take this set to another level?
With very soft (shhh…) set design.

This harmonizes with the deliciously-pale look of Cecilia.
What else??

We can actually SEE what the fuck we WANT to see.
No straining.

At first I thought this was merely a notable set.
I was wrong.
It is a PERFECT set.
For starters, she has a Milan-to-Barcelona flight plan on her fuckin’ ass.
And the clincher: she has some luscious east-west titties!!!

That’s why, after further review, I tipped this set (just now).
Ok, so there were four perfect sets.
Not horrible.
Not great.
But Dalila held up her end of the deal.
She was making content that fuckin’ rocked!
I LOVE THAT SET.
On to an artistic coup that went by the title Schiele by a Suicide Girl who only made two sets before splitting forever.
Lots of turnover.

A Road Less Taken by @tamari is illustrative of this hide-chapping trend.
What further gets my pantaloons in a bunch is that she didn’t just fucking give up after this set.
Oh no.
She kept punching.
For many sets.
To no avail.

Why do I really like A Road Less Taken?
A. colors
Not just everywhere and all the time.
Oh no.
In the right doses.
So that their usage is EFFECTIVE.
Frame #8 is the best example.
It is a relatively-close-up shot (already a good start).
It bursts with eye-catching psychedelia.
Her fucking flanger ain’t tripping balls the entire set (not that I would object).
But she (and whomever shot this [name lost to history]) is FOCUSED in her ball-tripping.
A microdose.

I love that.
Why else do I really like this set?

CHOOSE YOUR OWN FUCKING ADVENTURE.
Invent a character.
Ziggy Stardust.
Aladdin Sane.
Start with the scenery.
Diamond dogs.
Have a cohesive sound/vision (record/packaging) PLAN.
Low.
We look at Goldfish Study No 8 and think,
“What the fuck?!? This is some twisted shit! Is that a…live goldfish…dying right above her vagina???”
It’s not till the end that we are assured that “no animals were harmed” yada yada.
But it sure LOOKS real.
On first inspection.
Quickly glancing.
And she seems to be drinking fish water.
That’s kinda…hot?
Not sure.
BUT IT AIN’T NEVER BEEN DONE.
In seven full years, there had never been a set like this on Suicide Girls.
How does it work?
What makes it tick?
Shock value.
But not just that.
Novelty.
Originality!

Once again, a Hopeful who got shafted.
Particularly embarrassing considering the low-quality content of this largely-dreadful month, but I digress…

She never went Pink.
But she made a notable set with Garden of Eden .
It is sacrilicious.
It is cinematic.
