Sometime after midnight last Thursday night, Seattle was supposed to be hit with the biggest storm since 1963. I love storms and was really looking foward to it. Miguel, Jeremiah, Tanya and I all bundled up around 11pm when it started to get pretty windy, dropped some acid and took a long walk through the neighborhood and a nearby cemetery. The sky was orange-purple and the trees wove and shook, all barren with leaves. The rain began to come down and soaked us through and the wind was whipping pretty good. We made our way home after midnight wishing it would have been a crazier storm and got into dry clothes, though I didn't even feel cold. We were up for hours laughing and hanging out but somehow totally missed hearing the HUGE tree falling, 3 houses down.
Oh man, when we finally looked outside the next day, we couldn't believe it! I don't know how the heck we didn't hear it fall plus it was suprising how stormy it must have become after we had gone inside. I'm telling you, this tree was so beautiful and so huge and so alive. I was sad for it. I kept feeling like it was like being near a beached whale...so mammoth and out of place and helpless. Living in Washington I am surrounded by trees yet, seeing one lying on the ground is such a different perspective. It was a living giant and I felt lucky to go up to it and touch it and smell it and walk into it. How often does a tree fall over in our lives? Hardly ever, maybe never.
We were lucky to be near it. The road was blocked off for 2 days and we were constantly hanging out down there. It was really weird to come back yesterday afternoon to see it cleared and cut on the side of the road. Poor guy. Now though, we have tons of firewood. Jeremiah has been splitting wood all day. There is an unbelievable amount of sap in it's wood. More than I have ever seen. Jeremiah held up one piece that a large slit pouring out huge amounts of clear, light amber sap. Looked so good, just like honey! I wanted to taste it.

Beautiful pics. You totally LOOK like you were on acid, by the way.
