best of a really bad situation.....my friends dad died of a heart attack. whew! but heres where it gets waaaay worse before it gets better.
he died basically penniless. and his life insurance policy had only been started last august. not even a year old and it needed to be at least two years old to be mature. so that left my friend and his two brothers less than $900 for the funeral. which meant no funeral, just enough for a cremation, big lebowski style.
the real heartbreaker is that my buddy told me "the only thing in his life he was proud of was his military service, he told me he wanted to be buried in a veteran's cemetary, and i can't even do that for him." i relayed this heartbreaking news to another friend of mine who saved the day. turns out that if you are a vet the veterans administration will give you a burial service or intern (inter?) your ashes at a vets cemetary. so it turns out the eight hundred and some odd dollars will get him cremated and his ashes will be at a vet cemetary.
best of a bad situation. a man that lived a tough, no frills life gets his final rest just the way he wanted it. in the big picture can you really ask for more than that?

I finished Jitterbug Perfume earlier today. I loved it.
And yes, I love Cake (the band, not the dessert).
