A-ha! Found it. The David Sedaris title I couldn't remember was Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Oh, and next time I'm there, I want to go to a Cuban-style restaurant that plays samba/reggae/salsa/etc. smile I've found a few on Metromix and Center Stage.
