Just got back from LSAT prep, my brain is brain soup. But I'm having all these thoughts so... geez, better get them down and express myself. SUCH a human.
First of all, I read a fucking great article in Spin today. Its all about the educational power of music. The writer was talking about how he just finished reading "the Stranger" and finally realized what the cure song "Killing an arab" was about. That brought back memories from 10th grade, and also made me wonder if how much of my education could be attributed to trying to be cool enough for the music I listen to.
Some educational songs that came to mind...
Belle and Sebastian- Marx and Engels
The Smiths- Cemetary Gates
Le Tigre- hot topic
Atom & His package- the palestinians are not the same thing as the rebel alliance, jackass.
...And so many more. Its funny the referential circles you get into. I liked the smiths before i started reading keats and shelly, and i liked the movie Coalminer's Daughter waaay before I got into Loretta and Patsy. Which got me into Neko case, which led to the new pornographers.... geez. And to think my first 3 tapes were: Janet Jackson, rythm nation, the pretty in pink soundtrack and madonna, like a virgin. What a long way I've come.
The other thing I was thinking today is how much I fucking hate being dependent on other people for anything. I want to be the hero of my own life, but i keep getting all these other assholes tangled up in it.
Like this boy. The boy. He makes me feel so fucking dumb that I have to try to act cute to make up for it, which I am incredibly terrible at. He doesn't do it on purpose, he's just such a genius and I admire him so much. But I end up talking his ear off and lying about stupid things and doing things that I think he might think are cute. Ugh, it is so gross! I just want it to be over now before i get too involved. ok, so that was my girly rant of the day.. it ends now...
