FYI, according to astronomers, March 1 in the first day of spring since today the sun crossed the equator and is now a presence in the northern hemisphere (sorry Scotty, summer is over). Most of us celebrate the first day of spring as the equinox, the day when day and night are equal, 12 hours each. I don't know when this occurred but it is based on the tilt of the earth and the fact that North America and previously (more importantly) western European (make that "modern") civilization is in the northern hemisphere and the equinox takes several weeks to occur after the astronomical first day of spring.
