I don't know why I'm in this analytical mood about SG site, but I'll go with the flow.
I wanted to post this to SG Photographer Hopefuls but couldn't find the appropriate thread, so I'll post it here. My prior post had to do with sets that are boring (no offense to the models).
Photographers and models have different goals: the model wants to present herself in the best possible way (within limits) but the photographer has the additional goal of showcasing his professional skills as well as presenting the model at her best (I hope).
The drive to be unique is unending; so how does a model make herself stand out in the crowd? Some seem to think that "guy" settings are the way to go, working on cars and trucks, working at car washes, even lately a cute little girl working at a truck stop vehicle wash ; others hang out in bars and stay late, posing on the furniture and pool tables. I don't think any of this works.
The environment in which the model performs is pretty unimportant; what is important, it seems to me, is the pace of revealing herself. The SG culture seems to say breasts by F10, bum by F20, vagina (open and wide) by F30.
So if we ignore the setting as unimportant what is important is the technical aspect of the shoot; lighting, posing, model preps before the shoot.
Models and shooters need to be honest about what the goals are and how to reach them.
