Adults often threw around the word "precocious" when I was younger.
In 5th grade I was sent to the office for the only time in my school career because I wouldn't stop talking to Robbie Bailey during math, because I had to make him understand why his parents were wrong for voting for Bush Sr and how if they just listened to Dukakis', they'd see he was the better choice. And that, no, that whole "tank" photo would not be an indication of him as a president.
We came up to austin in 1991 for the inauguration of the 45th Governor of Texas, Ann Richards.
I was thirteen. I had on a navy blue floral dress and a faux fur coat my dad had bought me for my birthday a few months before.
I had always been facinated by politics but something about being there flipped a switch that has yet to be turned off.
And since then, Ann Richards has been on my short list of people I wish I were a little more like.
I doubt that will ever change.
RIP, Ann.

i just noticed that the flags around here are not at half staff for Ann, but they were for Nellie Connally, what's up with that? Ann was a great lady indeed.
