Yesterday, the zoo happened with Luminere, Lankakitten, and myself. And when I say, it happened, I mean that it didn't exist before we arrived and winked out of existence after we left. All those families with strollers and screaming toddlers were just props placed there to scare us away.
Highlights of the day included a 500 pound brown bear who swam in the habitat pool less than two feet away from us. As he gracelessly entered the water, it was like a volkswagen bus was being dropped into a lake. The wake splash was huge against the window.
Morning is definitely the best time to visit the zoo. We showed up at opening and by 11:00, the animals were all conkered out.
I'm just zipping from topic to topic here.
There was the monkey above who I touched hands with through the glass. I had the distinct, nauseating feeling that he thought we were inside the cage rather than himself. They were certainly more human than I expected. I know, it's cliched, everybody feels that the monkeys are human, but it's still a new feeling to me.
Breakfast at the Pancake Slut was tasty and I recommend it to anyone craving a pancake feast. Luminere's family are all really nice people and they have a crazy neighbor. Batman Begins was awesome, and we were home by 5PM with well enough time to take a nap and still have the rest of the night left to do stuff. There's something to be said about early morning events. I felt like the day was really full.
Back to Batman Begins, this was Luminere's third time seeing it, and afterwards he mentioned that he wouldn't mind seeing the movie a fourth time on Imax. I can see why, it's a superhero movie without an arch-villain, and even better it's grounded almost entirely in reality. The most interesting part of Batman Begins is that the antagonist in the movie is himself, not some concrete external problem. That's a risky film for hollywood to make. And as a consequence, it was deeper and more immersing a film than any I've seen in a long time.
It makes my life feel shallow and pointless actually. I'm not the best computer programmer in the world, but I am a good computer programmer, and I have fairly clever ideas at times, and there should be some way that I can use these uncommon skills to help other people. Only, there's very few ways that computers can actually help us...
I saw Batman for the second time yesterday and would absolutely see it again.
Turns out I went to the zoo with my parents yesterday morning. It was my parents idea, maybe due to proximity. We walked there and if you've never crossed 99 via the walking bridges, it's kind of cool. Lots of old trees and they had new trees and plants in pots just inside the fence on the east side of the zoo.
