Last night I came over the peak of my five-foot-thick survey and started down the backside. I delivered a report broken into fifty separate files; my state of the art server just couldn't hold all that data in one pass.
This isn't the way it should be.
Nobody should have to go for a week without sleeping for more than five hours at a time. In the software industry they call this strategy a death march and its incredibly common as a team comes up on their ship date. There's many books written about it, like The Mythical Man Month and companies like Electronic Arts have turned it into a regular shipping strategy. This is probably why Luminaire disappears for months at a time.
What sucks most is that I had good intentions but my program just isn't that great. I didn't have any inspiration so I'd give it a B+.

Last weekend, one of the dumpsters was gone. There's eight or ten of them on the complex, so you think you would just go to another one. I did. No biggie.
A few hours later, I had more trash to take out and discovered that everyone in the intervening time had used the floor.
I left a note.
It turned out that the dumpster had been taken away for steam cleaning. They were trying to improve the appearance of the complex. Now the concrete floor is filthy.
How's that for irony? Fucking savages in this town.

He had no idea. They say it's possible he's had it for at least 3-4 years.
