Further securing my nerdhood, I did some math today before ordering a pizza. I needed to determine which pizza (from PIzza Time) had the best discount.
Med 11" Pizza - $7.99
Large 14" Pizza - $10.99
X-Large 16" Pizza - $13.99
First I calculated the area:
Med 11" Pizza - 94.9 units
Large 14" Pizza - 153.86 units (62% larger)
X-Large 16" Pizza - 200.96 units (111% larger)
Then I divided the area by the price to determine the price per unit:
Med 11" Pizza - 8.4 cents per unit
Large 14" Pizza - 7.1 cents per unit (16% less)
X-Large 16" Pizza - 6.9 cents per unit (18% less)
The Large pizza gets you about 16% more pizza for your dollar, but the Extra Large has no measurable Extra Discount! I'm ordering the large.
Whew, crisis averted!

You should put into the equation quality of the pizza.
Check out this pizza I ordered last year for a party. Barely fit in the trunk. It is the equivalent of 4 large deep dish pizzas. I don't know what the value would be. But it was $50. Value?
MATH! MATH! MATH!
