LankaKitten's birthday is today! I'm getting her drunk then taking her out to dinner.
So I'm playing bartender and armed with my trusty Bartender's Manual, I'm making her choice of drinks for the afternoon and documenting them because taking pictures of cocktails is fun. Lankakitten requested not to be in the shots so maybe later she'll make an appearance.
12:01 PM
The Tequila Sunrise
Fill glass with ice
Add 1 oz tequila
Fill with orange juice
Top with grenadine
Garnish with a cherry
12:17 PM
Long Island Iced Tea
Fill glass with ice
1/2 oz Rum
1/2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Triple Sec
1/2 oz Vodka
2 oz Sweet and Sour
Fill with coke
Garnish with lemon
12:51
Cowboy Cocksucker
1/3oz Bailey's Irish Cream (bottom)
1/3oz Vodka (middle)
1/3oz Butterscotch Schnapps (top)
Top with 4-6" Whipped Cream
We're semi-vegan so I substitute a glob of "Hip Whip" for the whipped cream to balance out using real Irish Cream.
If I'm allowed to deviate for a moment, I'd like to talk about a drink from my book called a Cement Mixer. It's 3/4 oz irish cream, 1/4oz Rose's lime juice. The trick is to make sure that the two mix well, so swirl it a bit. Then let it sit for a minute or three before serving. The lime juice curdles the irish cream and it becomes a solid (but tasty) block.
I made it last night to see if it worked. It did, completely solid -- and gross.
2:10PM
Cherry cherry coke?
1oz Three Olives Cherry Vodka
Fill with coke
Top with 1/2 oz Rose's Grenadine
Garnish with cheries
Personally, I hate using soda as a mixer. It's just that it never turns out quite as good as it sounds. It's almost as if the soda covers up the good flavors of the booze and leaves only the alcohol fumes behind.
She seemed to like it though, so cool. Maybe I'm weird.
Time for lunch, some quick shopping and more booze.

Go wish her a happy birthday!
