Well I did say I would come back from my days in the dark to tell you all about my adventures. They did not go as planned...
First I'll give you a little idea of what I had planned for my weekend. Jason (my boyfriend) and I had planned a wonderful get a way to his parents vacation home in South Carolina. Its a beautiful place on the lake without cell phone service. An honest to god real get away from reality. A place to relax and kick your feet up while enjoying the simple things in life. We planned to spend 3 nights down there with our baby Fae (my husky) and meet up with his family for ice cream. We were going to have a bonfire and go to my favorite restaurant in town. I was so freaking excited!!
So, now to tell you what actually happened...
We left on Friday, as soon as I got out of work. The Jeep packed, Fae in the back and music on full blast. This was going to be awesome. :D
After a 4.5 hour drive, we got in the driveway around 7:30. Unpacked the Jeep and took our little Fae for a walk to stretch her legs. We picked up inside the house before letting her off. You know, rat poison and dead bugs. The place hadn't seen a single soul in almost 2 years. Checked to make sure we got everything and let Fae off her leash. Put some food in the fridge and turned the electricity on. We were going to a place called The Village Grill for dinner. It's this cute little place in town that has AMAZING specials.
Being the neurotic person I am, I shut all the doors to the extra rooms to make sure Fae couldn't get in and find anything we didn't want her to and then we headed to dinner. It's about a 20 minute drive because the house is out in the country, but it's enjoyable. When we got in town there was a waitlist for the restaurant. They were packed! So we grabbed a drink and headed outside to enjoy the starry evening. Once we ate we headed to the grocery store and back to the house. This is were everything goes haywire...
Before that... Enjoy two great pictures I took before we left!
It was around 10:30 when we finally got home only to open the door and find Fae playing with a container of rat poison that Jason forgot he left on a lower dresser... where she could jump to. Que crazy mental person... I went nuts. Grab the box and started freaking out. I immediately called the ASPCA which is an association that provides 24 hour service for animal owners about poison control. Now, i'm already almost on the verge of tears because she's a 5 month old puppy, she's my baby, and I have no idea how much she ate or how long ago it happened.
All while i'm freaking out, Mr. Calm Cool and Collected (Jason) is petting the dog and giving her water. I'm still on the phone with poison control and they're telling me she needs to go to an emergency clinic. Well... great.... we're out in the country where it takes 20-30 minutes to get ANYWHERE. Ugh. I would scold Jason more for leaving it on a low level dresser but there is no point. What's done is done and now I have to focus on my puppy. So. Here we go.. Our first night on our supposedly relaxing vacation and we're on our way to the puppy emergency room. Wonderful.
When we get there, they make her get sick and puke up all the poison they could get out of her. Phew... Then the vet tells us we're lucky... In my head i'm thinking what kind of a whack job would tell me i'm lucky my dog ate rat poison?!?! SHE ATE RAT POISON... HELLOOOOO .... but then I listen to the rest of his sentence to realize we ARE lucky. She ate the kind of poison that is treatable. It has an antidote and we're going to give it to her tonight. She has to continue it for 30 days but there shouldn't be any permanent damage and she should be just fine.
Oh my god... I can breathe again.... My little baby is going to be okay..
Now it's Jason's turn..
On the entire ride home I lecture him about his laissez-faire attitude and how he needs to start being more careful. She's a puppy and loves to get into ANYTHING. You can't just have the attitude that she will be fine and everything will be okay. It very easily could have NOT been okay.
He's nodding and acknowledging that i'm right but he's just as exhausted as I am.
Ah yes, we arrive home. I was going to hop in the shower and then head to bed... well... guess what didn't work....
No water?
Nope
No water?
JACE! Why isn't the water working?
Well.... I don't know. Let's go find out...
Okay. So we grab buckets, flashlights, and some tools and head down the hill.
After two hours of searching around the house, down the hill, and under the house we discover the pipe is broken in half.....
Joy...
Fucking. Joy. I need a drink.
So. We head back in the house and get some drinks and debate what to do. We can't stay here for 3 days without water...
Well at least one thing works! We figured out if we take water from the clean, clear stream and put it in the back we can make the toilets work! YAY!! I have somewhere to go potty! Thank god something is going good.
We decide if the toilets work we can stay for one more night and let the dog enjoy the outside, shoot our guns, and have a bonfire. So the next morning we got up, went to breakfast and came back to have some fun. We loaded our guns and got the splatter targets (when you shoot them, they splatter color in that spot) - they're awesome!- and headed outside. Now. I haven't had any practice in a few months so I figured I would be rusty... NOPE! I had a better shot than Jace. It was awesome. I was so proud. Then it started to rain... there goes more of our plans for a bonfire... great... well.. I guess we can stay inside.
I rummaged around to find something to do for the entire night...
UNO! YES! One of my favorite childhood card games. Jace had no idea how to play so I had to teach him. It was funny teaching him how to play a card game. We had a few drinks and played some games. Then headed to bed so we could get up nice and early and head home.
SO...
To sum up my trip...
- No bonfire
-No favorite restaurant
-No relaxation
-No water
-Trip to the puppy emergency room
-Headed home early
Not the trip I wanted but at least all of us made it home and Fae should be just fine. I'm just sad we didn't get to enjoy our time like we wanted.. but hey. There will always be another time! Adventures happen and they're not always predictable.
