OH HAI! (kthx, lolcats.)
It's time for my monthly, whether-I-need-to-or-not blog entry, so nobody thinks I've died, or gone to Wyoming.
It's been an absolutely gorgeous, picture-postcard-perfect early autumn here in Colorado, with turquoise blue skies and golden aspens fluttering like paper wind chimes in the breeze. The non-native trees, imported by the earliest settlers, having made it through all of September without our usual early snowstorm, haven't deposited tons (literally) of the usual branches and limbs that can't handle Colorado weather. I guess that's one small benefit of global warming (but no free mulch in the spring!). They're all turning their usual fall oranges and reds and yellows, reminding us Yankees of our beloved New England autumns.
The change of weather makes my strained little joints very unhappy, as does the workload imposed by my new slavedriver, er, I mean caretaker. Yes, I have a new (well, my first) live-in caretaker, who is just a leeeeetle bit anal retentive. Even though he's only here for a few months to get me through a couple of surgeries, he's rearranged (and in some cases, even modified with power tools) my furniture, changed up the art hanging on my walls, made me clean up piles of mail or other clutter he deems untidy, and basically working me to the bone. I'm okay with that in general (despite the bodily injuries), but I expected more housecleaning and meals from him (in a month, he's only cooked 3 dinners and a few lunches, although I do get some sort of breakfast most days). I'm not entirely sure the situation is working out. He's treating the situation as if he's doing me a favor, but he is getting free room and board out of the deal, so I was hoping he'd be treating it more like a job. And he has expensive taste in "board" - he buys very expensive food at expensive grocery stores and I am gonna have to have a talk with him about that. One of the very simplest things I asked of him was to make sure I get my meds at 9am and 9pm. This morning I woke up on my own at 10:30am and he said nothing about why he didn't wake me at 9, and tonight I stumbled downstairs at 10ish pm after a nap and again he said nothing about the fact that he didn't wake me, even though he was home.
The worst part is, he takes anything I say about how to do or not do something as criticism. For instance, if I say something like "Oh, wooden spoons shouldn't go in the dishwasher," he takes that as criticism, and asked me if I could please balance out those comments with "positive" ones praising him for the things he does right. Argh! It's not like we're going out or even traditional roommates - I hired him! I thought little things like that (phrased politely of course) wouldn't be taken as something emotional, just as a non-emotionally-laden piece of practical information. If I wanted this insecure emo crap, I'd be living with my husband!
So, I guess that's what's called "venting", eh?
On another topic, I'm not sure that the Makeup - Beauty group gang is taking full advantage of The Freebie Thread!, that I so lovingly maintain, so I am advertising it here for the other 2.5 people who might read my blog. I send away for freebies to make packages for deployed soldiers through AnySoldier.com, so while I'm collecting my sources, I create links for the SG community to enjoy. I include anything even broadly associated with personal hygeine: besides makeup and skincare, you can also find toothpaste, deodorant, razors, dietary supplements, fragrances, hair products, and much more - lots for guys as well as gals! So that all my devoted work is not for naught, please visit The Freebie Thread! and enjoy some fun freebies. Just get yourself a junk gmail account to use for signups, because you will get spam. PM me if you need a gmail invite.
I'm also a mad sweepstakes enterer. And yes, I win stuff! In September I won a pair of gold earrings (ARV $299) from Jewelry.com (which are going to be a graduation present for my niece) and a pair of smokin' hot boots from Seychelles Footwear and Lucky Magazine (which I am so totally keeping for myself!). (To see the actual boots, click on "Handmade", and it's the first boot on the second shelf from the bottom, the "Tally Ho".) I also win a lot of beauty products (because that's what I enter the most of!) Are there other sweepers around? How would I find out if there are and if it might be worthy of its own group?
Well for me, this is a damned long blog. Time to go read all of yours.
