Hello Ninjas and Pirates,
Firstly before the facts begin...I've lost ten more pounds, 30 pounds to my goal now!!! Finally after my weight has plateaued for so many months, I am back to losing!
This is blog #5 in the factstravaganza. I would hope you would understand the need for my last blog to stay up so long. That said here are todays little tidbits, facts, and trivial pieces of knowledge.
1) There are 336 dimples on the average golf ball's surface.
2.) There are 775 rooms in Buckingham Palace.
3.) There are 64 places on an American checkerboard with the possibility of 204 "squares for moves" combinations.
4.) Before announcing himself the President of the Sovereign States of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis served as the Secretary of War.
5.) Mary Todd Lincoln's family would have preferred that she marry her husband's opponent in the Lincoln Douglas Debates, Steven Douglas.
6.) Mary Todd Lincoln's brother David was in charge of many Southern prison camps during the Civil War and was touted as one of the harshest wardens by many Union soldiers.
7.) In 1875 Mary Todd Lincoln was declared insane and committed to an asylum for 4 months, she was released to her sister's custody after four months and was buried wearing her wedding ring which was inscribed "A.L. to Mary Nov. 4, 1842 Love is Eternal."
8.) General George Patton was an accomplished taxidermist who contributed a variety of specimens to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
9.) Violent inmates in Colombia's largest prison undergo hourly body cavity searches. (Really? Why *do* I know this one?)
10.) An ancient Greek manuscript found in a burial mound in Antioch contains technical diagrams for a rudimentary rocket powered by olive oil.
...and this concludes today's factstravaganza blog by Yours Truly.
