I am going to faill this damned fucking English class, I don't get it the book says one thing about the paper I am supposed to be writing and the instructor says another thing.
It's a summary/strong response paper. I have the summary done, and now am getting to the strong response part of it, sadly...the teacher says that the response is all me and not really supposed to reference the article anymore and yet the book says the following :
1. Your response will be based mostly on your personal observations: that's your credibility. Show your readers how your observations give you authority by including anecdotes. Your response needs to include details, examples, annd illustrations to enable readers to understand your perspective. Your details are the only device you have to help your readers understand what it is like to feel the way you do about your subject.
2. Your response might also include at least one main point commenting on the author's rhetorical choices concerning audience, purpose, genre, and style and the effects of these choices.
^^^^^^^^ how the fuck am I gonna do that without using the text?
3. An important element of your response will be stating an opinion. However, simply stating that opinion is not enough, you must also explain your reasoning, give examples, compare your view to others', and place your opinion in a context. In other words your purpose is not to attack the article/author or to praise it; it is to add to the ongoing conversation about the issues your paper raises. (again HUH?!?!?)
4. Ask yourself, "What sort of person would be interested in what I have to say?" Are your intended readers the same as the article writer's? WIll anyone who read the original article be interested in your response? Do you have a more specific group in mind?
*sigh*
And this is what my teacher tells me
"There is no need for your to summarize his points or use his examples in the strong response".
"Response is all you, what do *you* think of the article?"
"Use a broad approach"
I am about to just fold and fail the paper I am so confused and it doesn't help that she told me to just call her and to email her a revision so we could talk about it and I do and I get her voicemail and no response via email yet.
