BATTLING ANTS AND MOPS AND JUDGES
or
"OR FIND ME IN CONTEMPT AND ORDER ME TO DO IT."
I have battled ants today. I found several in a left out container for frozen orange-flavored sugar-free sorbets scooped into actual orange rinds. The ants love those things. Two ants were crushed in the initial encounter. Two others were saved and sent outside. I plan on keeping the ants outside. We are, after all, more intelligent then them. OR ARE WE...
I then battled several mops and brooms in the pantry closet. They seemed to make it a very negative space; always having to mind the mops. I put them in an already cluttered room in the basement. Things will keep finding their place in our house.
I was summoned to Housing Court this afternoon. I arrived to find an old lady defendant in a civil nuisiance case for her foul hoarding problems, animal and otherwise. I do not handle civil matters. I am a criminal defense lawyer. She had my card. I brokered a resolution where she has another week to clean up the problem and the city promises to help her open her windows which were painted shut. By the city. I told the judge he could find me in contempt and order me to help the poor woman open her windows as community work service.
What if the city doesn't exercise due diligence in executing a consent decree? Sanctions? Contempt?
