WHY BLOOMSDAY?
Bloomsday is lingo for the date depicted in James Joyces massive masterpiece, Ulysses. June 16, 1904 is represented throughout the eight-hundred page volume, from the morning rituals of its characters, though their afternoon meanderings, to their late-night, drunken musings.
In less than three months, the one-hundredth anniversary of that celebrated day will be upon us. I have desperately tried to alert others of this impending celebration, but I have few takers. I imagined public readings throughout the country, sponsored by SG. After all, Molly Bloom, the female protagonist reveals herself to be a suicidegirl of the first order in the last forty unpunctuated pages documenting her masturbatory stream of consciousness.
I seem to stand alone here. If there are others out there who share my enthusiasm, or are curious to know more, please find me.
