I used to love Christmas, it was my favorite time of year, everything was magic and it seemed to go forever, you saw all your family, and had fun events all month long, even the radio and tv got in on the action. you get exactly what you wanted from santa (or something pretty cool that you like anyway)
then i grew up
and now it's not quite as cool anymore. now even though i do a lot of my shopping online, and or earlier in the year, I still have to battle the holiday throng every time I'm just running errands. Everyone is out, everyone is crazy, no one remembers how to drive or be very polite
bills stack up, you start stressing about money, and yet another person calls up to let you know that 'we're just going to do a drawing this year, just bring a $10.00 gift to play, it'll be fun (all those extra $10.00 can add up)
and no one knows you well enough to shop for you anymore. you kill yourself over thoughtfull presents, and get a bunch of gift certificates back instead (if it was money, I'd just pay off all the bills with it)
the day itself is still fun, seeing family, eating good, seeing if everyone likes their gifts, getting some okay stuff as well, then if you have kids, the day after can be kind of rough, opening all the imposible packaging, realizing you don't have nearly enough batteries, getting swamped with toys, and then all the whining as there's the let down from the festivities.
holly jolly indeed
