Today, I just spent a precious time with an old friend I haven't seen since I was 14 years old!! This was a guy I knew back when I was a kid, living in Japan. We met up at Fisherman's Wharf today and ended up on my block where we ate Greek. All the time catching up and reminiscing on the good old days. Went to my home for a bit and watched part of "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars". Pretty good start for a night between old friends. Right? Gets better. We end up going to a local Irish Pub called "O'Reily's Holy Grail" for some drinks and to watch a live traditional Irish band play. It was the first time I'd ever been there. What I figured would be a simple night tuirned out to be one of the best nights I've spent in a long time. It was a guy on an electric piano, which settings he used did the music well, an older man on an accordion and playing occasional drum rhythms and the lady, which was the star also playing accordion, like no one I've ever heard and occasionally, playing the low whistle. The energy that came out of this was good and unreal!! To add to this, there was an entire Irish family, who added to the enery of this place, lead by the patriarch, who sang and dance his heart out the whole night and it all came out so naturally. They spread the vibe to everyone in that bar. I've never felt this good in a long time!!! After it was all over, I walked him down to the corner of my street, where he stopped said a temporary goodbye's (he will be back soon!!) and saw him off realizing I had just made another brother for life!! It's one of those nights that reminds me that no matter how bad things may seem or get, life is still worth living and fighting for. Thanks. I really needed that!!
