I haven't blogged in a while and I finally thought of a topic I know something about...
Gigs and festivals have always been super important to me and often the highlight of my year. Music has shaped who I am as a person and is a huge contributor to my identity. In music I found likeminded people, a sense of security, a boyfriend, a best friend and some amazing memories
Here's a list of my best Gig/Festival experiences in no particular order
BLINK 182, SOUNDWAVE 2013
A favourite for obvious reasons, I found Blink 182 when I was 11 years old and i've been obsessed with the band ever since. The music, style, lyrics and culture resonated in me despite never being to California. I didn't get to see them in their hay day and Travis WASN'T THERE but I had an amazing time nonetheless and travelled Australia so I could see them play at every Soundwave that year. I was 19 years old at the time.
VIOLENT SOHO, UNIFY 2017
In january of 2017 I went to Unify with my beautiful housemates and some of their friends. The festival reminded me of gigs I went to when I was a teenager and I loved the environment so much. As chance would have it my now boyfriend who I'm travelling overseas with in two months time was also at this festival. We hooked up during Violent Sohos set - Violent Soho and said boy were both amazing. We've been inseparable ever since and the album Hungry Ghost is now one of my all time favourites
SLIPKNOT 2009 (i think)
When I was 15 I saw Slipknot and it was one of the first heavy stadium shows I had ever been to. I fell in love with the atmosphere immediately. If you EVER get a chance to see Slipknot I highly recommend it - I've seen them three times since and every time it's amazing. They're performers just as much as they are musicians and they know how to put on a show. Slipknot fans are a different breed altogether and the passion they have for the band is amazing to watch. After that I went to ever gig and festival I could get my parents to drive me to.
THE AMITY AFFLICTION 2016
I almost couldn't make it to this gig but I'm so glad I did - I had only listened to one Amity album at this point and my friend happened to have a spare ticket. I have seen Amity three times since then and I even had the privilege of working on one of their music videos recently. It was at this gig that I met my best friend Hayley and she has literally become my rock through everything. She's also my number one gig/mosh buddy and has supported me on my sg journey. She has also put a roof over my head in the past and is second mama to my cat Donnie. Amity is a sick Australian band if you haven't heard of them and your partial to emo tunes with amazing scream vocals about the ocean this band is for you!
TROPHY EYES 2016, 2017, 2018
I first saw Trophy eyes in 2016 when they supported Amity ^ and since then I have not stopped listening to them. John Floreanni is just an amazing lyricist. I saw them recently at Download and I swear they keep getting better. If you haven't discovered their album Chemical Miracle I highly suggest you check it out. My debut set Daydreamer is a reference to one of their songs. Also I met John at the bar I worked at, he is just as beautiful inside as he is on the outside and he drinks Jameson neat <3
Tell me what your favourite gig experiences have been!
