I could while away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head, I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel ev'ry riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain
With the thoughts you'd be thinkin'
You could be another Lincoln,
If you only had a brain.
Oh, I could tell you why
The ocean's near the shore,
I could think of things I never thunk before
And then I'd sit and think some more.
I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain--Whoa!
I hum and whistle this tune a lot..need to learn the words...
fun story from yesterday:
So I'm calling all these students who haven't paid their tuition yet...and let me tell you it's boring as fuck. I've mastered my little speech to speeding through it in 30 secinds. I have fun with it and match the timbre and tone of the answering machine speaker sometimes..
anyways
So I call this one girl (have my bigboy professional voice on) and ask for Jennifer. The girl who answers runs off, but I can still her as she yells "Jennifer, it's SOME GUY"
"Jennifer answers the phone, all breathless
"hello!?"
"Jenifer?"
"HEY!"
"yeah, this is David in the records office at.."
"oh..." (imagine the same "oh" you'd hear if you'd just said "yes, this is Satan, and not only am I taking away your soul, but also your birthday"
I started giggling at the poor girl at that point, lost my composure totally. She seemed SO excited to have me calling..I should have just went with it and pretended to be someone else..
owell..it amused ME..of course, I also amused myself by counting how many minutes it took to call individual letters of the alphabet. The S's took longest.
Q's were quickest.
Aint my life interesting?

My brother Jimmy, my other brother Jack
Went off down to Houston and they never come back
Mama wasn't gonna let her baby go yet
But there ain't nobody hirin' back in Lafeyette
I'm workin' all week for the Texaco check
Sun beatin' down on the back of my neck
Tried to save my money but Jimmy says no
Says he's got a little honey on Telephone Road
Chorus:
Come on come on come on let's go
This ain't Louisiana
Your Mama won't know
Come on come on come on let's go
Everybody's rockin' out on Telephone Road
Telephone Road is ten miles long
Fifty car lots and a hundred honky-tonks
Jukebox blastin' and the beer bottles ring
Jimmy banging on a pinball machine
Chorus
Mama never told me about nothin' like this
I guess Houston's 'bout a big as a city can get
Sometimes I get lonesome for Lafeyette
Someday I'm goin' home but I ain't ready yet
Chorus
