Today.....oh today.....was a fucking rollercoaster ladies and gents. Started off pretty damn good....woke up feeling awesome. It wasn't too cold out. Things went smooth on mission prep. Then, bam. Shit sandwich. Not more than 10 meters out the gate, we're told our normal route is shutdown because of some big shindig with parliament going down today. So...alternate route here we come. We never go down...

Okay, so it's been a few days since I last posted. Sorry for those that read this, if anyone. I've been getting run ragged over here. Going out on convoys 4 days a week, plus working in the shop 6 days a week. I think I'm starting to adjust to it though. I don't seem to be getting as tired anymore, which is pretty awesome....

Groundhog day. Again. Went out for a drive. Saw the town. Yada yada yada. Had a truck break down on us. Fixed it. Broke down again with a different problem. Fixed it. Ya know, for all the technological breakthroughs in automotive engineering in the last decade, you'd think our trucks would be a little better than this.
Nothing much going on today. Spent most of it in the shop working on a few trucks. Went out to secure an area that some of the Afghan soldiers got hurt at today. One of them stepped on a landmine left over from the days of Russia playing around here. Pretty gruesome, but everyone is alive. The Afghans actually did a pretty good job of...

Rolled out across town again today. The scenery never seems to change around here. For the most part it's pretty depressing. We pass an amusement park everyday, but, instead of like an amusement park in the States, it is completely abandoned. No little children running around smiling and giggling. No cotton candy being eaten. No happiness. That pretty much applies to everybody I see over...

It really sucks to be in an environment like that.... so beautiful...with a lot of potential and they just don't care!
At least you can see a little happiness in your duty there, even if the locals don't see it that way.

I love the smell of diesel in the morning. Smells like.....well, diesel. No matter how many years I turn wrenches, there's always something about the smell of diesel that puts a little song in my heart and some pimp in my walk. I don't know what it is, but fuck is that stuff great. Not much news here today, but as you've probably guessed, I...

Went out for a little drive today. Had to go to another base to take care of some things. If any of you think your Monday commute is bad, you should see the streets of Kabul. Hoe. Lee. Shit. Imagine the worst traffic you've ever seen. Now take away stop signs and street lights. Then take away any sort of drivers education everyone around you...

So, another Christmas has come and gone. Another Christmas in a warzone. You'd think it would get easier the more you do something, but this is one of those things that never seems to change. A few years back, when I missed my first holiday season at home, the effort wasn't really all there in making it seem like home over here. I kinda miss...

I am glad your in the service to our country! I also understand your feeling about your deployment but I know if you just have MREs, T-rats, and a mess hall... you wouldn't mind some BK once in a while.
