A Return to Fun Horror
I've been a fan of horror movies for years, ever since "It" gave me my still present fear of clowns, but things have been going downhill lately.
I watch all types of horror flicks, from Halloween to Saw to Childs Play and Friday the 13th. The problem being when you're exposed to sequel after sequel in the same movie series things start to get bland and very predictable. Seeing this trend I've slowly drifted to lower budget movies that can still surprise me with less formulaic writing style. Movies like Paranormal Activity and Insidious are a great step in horror and anything that can give me the creeps after the movie is over is a step in the direction, but part of me misses the movies that made me love the genre in the first place.
Enter Scream 4 some 11 years after the last in the series left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't say for sure whether it was the return of Wes Craven or just time dedicated to getting a great script finished, this movie reminded me of why I fell in love with the genre in the first place. Action suspense and a dark sort of comedy, this is the Scream of old, pre Scream 3. Fans of the original will enjoy this outing and may give example to other horror series on how to bring some life back to a series in the right way.
