It seems to me that Holst's 'Planets Suite' is an idealised depiction of the Edwardian English/Imperial upper-class man.

- Jupiter - Maturity (Being a mover and shaper)
- Saturn - Middle age (Public Office)
- Uranus - Grandchildren and Frailty
- Neptune - Senility
I know, that's not the received wisdom. But look at it again: it works.
