Omg this is the third time I have tried to write this blog. It keeps getting deleted and I have to start over. I really like this weeks blog homework so I am determined to write it. Hopefully it won't delete it again.
So this weeks homework is in honor of national book day on November 1st. Well I am a voracious reader. I was lucky enough to see one of my favorite authors just this week at his book tour. They rented out a high school auditorium for the event which included beach balls, candy and rubber zombie hands being thrown at the audience. He is the author of Choke, Fight Club and Invisible Monsters (which is the book that spawned the term suicide girl!). Chuck Palahiuk read us a few of his short stories. They were classic Palahiuk style filled with the sexually grotesque. One was a story about two teenagers who catch their genitals on fire with a flammable lube. He also answered a few questions and gave away some autographed leather bound first edition books to some lucky raffle winners. I haven't started his new book yet but I am looking forward to it. I always finish his books within a day or two.
When I lived in Los Angeles I went to a book fair and met Ray Bradbury. He signed my copy of The Illustrated Man. His book The Martian Chronicles is one of my all time favorites. At the fair I also met William Nolan who is the author of Logan's Run. I am a big sci fi fan.
Another of my favorite authors is Kurt Vonegut. I never met him but when I was in Europe a few years back I did go to Dresden in Germany. Dresden is the setting of his book Slaughter House Five. I took a picture of the sign that said Dresden on it.
My family always tells me to write a book about my experience with MS. I have plenty to say on it. MAybe someday I could. I did win a few writing competitions in high school and college.
So what are some of your favorite books?
In addition to the previously mentioned my favorite books are This much I know is true by Wally Lamb and East of Eden by Steinbeck (I've read nearly all of Steinbecks stuff)
Just writing this makes me want to go read. I am currently reading Dead Souls by Gogol
