While I don't want to knock the wonderful platform that this site is: a platform to view and relish all these lovely ladies, who really, we're all rather lucky to get a look at, I would like to say this: I thought this was supposed to be about "alternative beauty", what's happening with this "mainstream alternative" vibe? There are some truly interesting and beautiful women...

Hi there. I have been experiencing insomnia for going on 4-5 months now. This is weird because for the most part, these 30-odd years I've been a great sleeper, relishing my 8 hours a night, and complaining bitterly when I don't get it!
My concern prompted me to do some digging on the interweb, and I found this article on namastecafe.com, written by a lady...

I have experienced literally every symptom in this article since I started on the path of yoga. Some, like the heart palpitations, passed relatively quickly, others like the tingling from the crown down the body have remained and become an indicator of when guidance and spirit are particularly strong. All through I have practiced yoga, and when I say yoga, it's not the typical assumption of asana only that Americans tend to think it is, but breathwork, concentration and meditation too. The practice has been the catalyst and well as the moderator for these experiences.
As for the sleeplessness, I am rather enjoying the notion now that I can survive on less and still feel energised enough to live my life fully.
Mr. xHeartSwornx sometimes to fully dance in the chaos and see the patterns even in the madness, there needs to be an anchor, a grounding line. And I believe this can only be found in discipline, of some form. Not everyone needs or has to do yoga, but there needs to be SOME constant. The yoga path works because it fosters self-awareness. Great if you're willing to see yourself as a whole, rather than fragmented parts, but really any discipline will do. Martial arts are great as well as activities where a rhythm is created and sustained: running, swimming (especially), cycling, whatever lets you get in your body, and then give your mind a break.
What I believe the writer was suggesting, in encouraging acceptance of these symptoms, was not do nothing about it, but to acknowledge that it is merely a symptom of a greater more profound shift that is occurring. And to not become overly attached to the potential repercussions that the symptoms may present.
Ayurvedically a simple way to help insomnia is to create and keep a ritual that prepares you for sleep at night. Avoiding rich, spicy or heavy food before bed; Avoiding alcohol before bed. getting out of the habit of watching tv or sitting on the computer until the eyes are heavy. Create a ritual that let's you mind unwind: keep noise to a minimum, keep the lights low, have a relaxing bath or shower. Give yourself time to mentally process and assess the day that's passed, give yourself a time to be in bed and stick with it. Creating a little discipline is the ultimate liberator: good luck man smile

I've had this for years and read it many times and it's one of those things that continues to gain clarity, depth and meaning every time I read it.

The thing about posting a blog is: it assumes that someone will actually give a flyer about what I have to say. Naturally I assume these people do not exist.
Regardless. It is too cold to speak of here in Johannesburg and I am looking forward to the days when we can walk around with minimal clothing again. These layers are not fun. Roll on...
