Hey all! for those residing in the Northern Hemisphere, be jealous, as we are still in the throes of summer! In fact, one of the best things about living in sunny SA is exactly that: sun and beautiful weather even when its wintry. There are many reasons to love living at the bottom of Africa: we live in a cultural melting pot (11 official languages) which I enjoy because it keeps me from having too insular an attitude, the natural beauty and wildlife of this land is staggering (any trip to one of our many national parks can show you that! Interesting fact: JRR Tolkien (who was born in Bloemfontein) received much of his inspiration for the Lord of the Rings trilogy from the landscape of the Drakensburg mountain range in the Easter Cape (Drakens means Dragons).
Also, Africa is kind of like frontier land, where being adaptable, opportunistic and mutable is kind of a necessity. Ours is not the heavily controlled, policed and structured environment of the "1st world" If you are a bit of a cowboy who likes to make the rules up as you go and make you own luck, then this is the place to be.
On the other hand it can be scary, violent, crime-ridden, politically heated and with vast socio-economic discrepancies between the haves and the have nots. It is not an easy place to make a living, but then where is in the world these days under the current economic pressures?
All in all, I love the energy here. This is my home, and the good things still manage to outweigh the bad.
On a similar vein, one of the best things of all about SA is our beautiful, talented women.
Observe:
Tarion
Wandering Star
Lumo
A Strange Fortune

and

So assuming I did this blog right and referenced everything correctly, it would be extremely remiss of me to not include possibly the most vital cog in this machine of creative South African hotness:
Talamia
Not only are you a phenomenally talented photographer who manages to bring out the best in her subjects, you are also patient, helpful and kind. Thanks for helping show the world how awesome SA women are. Big love and respect to you!
