I saw Slayer at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC on Monday night, President Day. It was a good show that was worth the money and the effot in getting there. The band played all of the songs that I wanted to hear, which is probably the songs that most Slayer fans wanted to hear. The set was only an hour and a half long without an encore. I cant figure out if this was due to the fact that it was 11:30 and the Metro stops running at midnight, or if they just played a short fast set. I think I will go with the Metro reasoning, it makes me feel better. The best part of the show was the very last song, Angel of Death. Every time the band plays this song live they deliver.
Unearth was the opening band, who I had never heard of until they took the stage. I was surprised at how good they were. The lead singer had some great interaction with the crowd. At two points during the show he called for an old school circle pit, which was a refreshing change from the elbows high free for all pits I have seen recently. I had forgotten how much fun circle pits are when compared to a mosh or slam pits. For anyone interested in some decent metal, I would recommend them. I think I will check out a CD the next time I torrent...I mean buy some music from the store.
Up next...the Dropkick Murphys in Allentown PA..
