Ok, so I made up my mind to look for God in the new year.
Thats a little bit of a strange statement, especially coming from an atheist. And I am an atheist, and proud of it. I became one in high school, when I found both an interest in science and history. Im also one of those annoying people who have to know the whole story. So while I was raised Catholic, when I got old enough, I not only investigated evolution and anthropology, but also the history of the Church, and by extent Judaism and Islam. All of which convinced me that there s not God up there, and even if there was, its certainly not one you want to worship.
So what, you may ask, am I doing looking for God?
My reasoning is this, being an atheist doesnt really give you that much comfort when it comes to the though of dying, except maybe a nihilistic numbness. And like most people in the world, Im a bit hesitant when it comes to the thought of me dying.
Hence my reasoning is, if I shop around for a God to believe in, I can at least have some sort of false hope, without the hypocrisy that following a mainstream religion entails. And since Im the one interviewing for the position of worshiper, I can at least get a favourable contract out of it.
So far, my list of potential deities are :-
Kali - looks awesome, which could lead to interesting tattoos in the future, the churches look amazing, think Temple of Doom, with giant statues, rivers of lava, and glowing shankara stones. Downsides are the human sacrifices of course, and slightly strange clothing.
Hades - cool name, God of death, which was what I was looking for in a God, and of wealth, which is a great bonus. The food (crusty bread with olive oil, olives and grapes) and drink (red wine) would also be great.
Loki - this one was suggested by someone I work with, who said it would so fit with my nature as a trouble maker and general evil person. Also, who am I to argue with the great Neil Gaiman over who the best God is.
So thats what Im thinking about at the moment. If you have any suggestions or idea, just let me know
