Holy Christ what a "long" weekend.
Just arrived home last (Wednesday) night after a twelve hour bus journey from my sisters place in Kaslo. Odd that, considering I started driving there friday night. But then, round about Princeton (Five hours out of Vancouver, with my brother-in-law's brother in the passanger seat and two hitch-hikers fast asleep in the back seat) this happened:
For those who don't recognize it this is the fan belt and fan idler from my '93 Isuzu Trooper, the former nothing but a few bits of rubber and the latter broken clean across the top.
I managed to go another hour to the larger town of Osoyoos, but there I turned the ignition off and couldn't restart it. After saying farewell to our hitch-hikers Mat and I had the beast towed to the only Mechanic that would be open on Saturday (it already being 8:30 PM with nothing open) with no vacancies to be found in a town full of hotels and motels we decided, after taking a few pictures and going for a swim in the lake, to sleep in the car. Not the most restful sleep ever what with the weekend population of frat boys, sorority girls and white power bikers passing loudly by all night.
After talking to the mechanic in the morning it became abundantly clear that the car wouldn't be moving until at least Tuesday. So we spent the day watching the girls on the beach. One very sexy french punk girl with the coolest dreds was walking around in a leopard-print skirt that read "Everyone I Know Must Die" across her ass. I tried to get Mat, who was born in Paris and lived in Quebec City for 3 years to ask her if I could take a picture but he wouldn't. Instead he took my camera for a swim to test it's water proofness.
We decided to take the afternoon bus to Nelson to get picked up by my sister and her husband, so we started to look around town for a bag to put all our loose luggage into to take on the bus. During the search we found these hats,
and, with the tempturature in the mid 30's (Celcius) we thought they were a good purchase. They also looked damn good too.
Eventually we arrived in Nelson and were driven to Kaslo where we stopped for a beer, some food, and live reggea.
We spent that night in my sister and her husbands "summer home" his uncle tom's cabin in the woods.
seen here with the black bag shower (a most rejuvenating way too wake up) hanging outside on the corner. The inside is cozy and warm
When the sun rose in the morning it lit the trees thusly.
It was good to finally arrive.
To be continued...
