The scene: A chip wagon somewhere South of Hastings Ontario; Time: Earlier today
Kid (running up to the car before I even get out):Hi! What can I get you!?
Me (getting out of car, grinning): A large poutine, please.
Kid: A potato? We don't have any potatoes.
Me (laughing): No. Poutine.
Kid: Potato? I guess we have potatoes but we make them into french fries.
later, while I'm standing at the window waiting for my order
Kid: Do you want a chocolate donut?
Me: Not today, thanks.
Kid: I'll keep it in the bottom drawer of the fridge for when you come back. Will you come back?
Me: Yep. Tomorrow.
Kid's dad: We're not open tomorrow. We're only open weekends.
Kid: We're not open tomorrow.
Me: Another day, then.
Kid: I'll keep it in the bottom drawer of the fridge for you. (pause) Do you want a potato?
Me: I'd love one, but if you can cut it up, fry it in oil and put cheese and gravy on it that'd be better.
Kid (looking at his dad who's making my poutine): Is that ok?
