I applied for a government job this week. About the same pay as I make now but with pension and benefits and it's closer to where I want to build. It's been a while since I've been uncertain about getting a job. I know I'm probably more qualified than anybody else who's likely to apply, but governments have slightly different standards of qualification. Wish me luck.
